Iran imports 90 per cent of its equipment needs for
oil and gas production, spending around $1.5 to 2 billion
annually, mostly through Kala Naft, the National Iranian Oil
Company’s (NIOC’s) purchasing and procurement arm. This
includes:
machinery – pumps, compressors, power generators,
workshop machines
mechanical equipment – towers, exchangers, boilers,
reactors, heaters
piping – all standard pipes, fittings, flanges, valves
for oil and gas purposes
instrumentation – transmitters, sensors, transducers,
analysers
electrical – cables, relays, transformers, post and
power plant equipment
air-conditioning – package units, air-handling units,
refrigerators
communication – telecommunication centres, local
receivers and transmitters
cathodic protection – rectifiers, buried anodes, tools
and equipment
Iran also depends on
engineering and technical consultants to develop its oil
fields. The services are usually offered in Engineering,
Procurement, Construction (EPC) and turnkey frameworks
